This event was an opportunity to involve the community in preparing for Christmas. A number of Organisations associated with the church such as Brownies, Guides, Parents and Toddlers, Active Ageing etc had prepared displays on the theme of giving and receiving. Many local organisations such as Ruislip Chamber of Commerce, Ruislip Lido Railway, Women’s Institute and The Ruislip Conservation Group also took part.
The theme of “Giving and Receiving” was presented in many ways: written and taped poems; a patchwork quilt; a “Christmas by Chocolate” Nativity quiz; creative displays and wrapped sweets on a Christmas Tree. The church was a candlelit pathway, leading from the commercial trappings of Christmas to the manger, cross and beyond.
We had a steady trickle of people from the local community who enjoyed both the interesting displays and the activities. Many took the opportunity to have a therapeutic massage offered by Red Cross volunteers. The “Shoutabout” session of drama and the craft sessions were particularly enjoyed by the children.
There was no charge for admission but visitors were able to make a donation to NCH. The total collected was over £100.
