Connecting with the community
A commitment to radical discipleship
in Ruislip Manor Methodist Church
Commitment to the life of the church is becoming less an expression of faith and more a part-time leisure activity that people opt into from time to time as it suits them,

The consequence of such ad hoc attendance is a loss of sense of community and corporateness.

Often the notion of “going to church” or “being in the church” relegates to a secondary position the idea and practice of being a disciple of Jesus,

The consequence of this attitude is losing touch with the purposes and goals of Jesus’ life and ministry, namely
·
the commitment to be counter-cultural
·
the offering of an alternative vision of the world where people are liberated to be more fully themselves
·
the challenging of anything that stands in the way of justice and peace
·
the undermining of the power of the economically and spiritually elite
·
the subverting of the status quo which always serves those in power
·
the stance of hope and openness to a new future which is, despite the evidence, possible.
